It costs an estimated $233,610 to raise a child to age 17, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Autism Speaks, an autism advocacy organization, estimates the cost to raise a child with autism or an intellectual disability is $1.4 to $2.4 million. The more severe the disability, the more expensive the lifetime cost.
In 40% of families with a child who has special health care needs, a member of the family stops working to become a full-time caregiver, according to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Our Why
Families who have children with disabilities face an inordinate number of challenges that range from worrying about their child’s wellbeing to managing insurance benefits to shoehorning their child’s numerous appointments into their already busy schedules.
Rosalie’s Story
Julie and Doug moved to Spokane from their home in the Midwest in 2017. Doug had finished his training as an Interventional Radiologist and had taken a position at Inland Imaging in Spokane. Julie left her role as a middle school principal in Ohio as they embarked on their new journey and took an assistant principal role at Glover Middle School in Spokane. Scholarship Information
To honor Rosalie’s memory Julie and Doug created an Early Childhood scholarship fund at Windsong School. The hope is that scholarship funds will allow other children to access the magic of Windsong that Rosalie loved so much.
